Woman Pleads Guilty To Embezzlement At Sonoma Boys and Girls Club

The organization's former finance director agreed to pay full restitution, plus will serve time in jail.

A Santa Rosa woman pleaded guilty Thursday to embezzling $8,205 from the Boys and Girls Club of Sonoma, Sonoma County District Attorney Jill Ravitch said Friday.

Robyn Cabrera, 37, agreed to pay full restitution and will serve 60 days in the Sonoma County Jail and be placed on three years’ probation as part of her plea agreement, Ravitch said.

She will be sentenced April 1 in Sonoma County Superior Court.

Cabrera worked for the Boys and Girls Club of Sonoma between 2005 and 2014, most recently as the director of Finance and Human Resources, Ravitch said.

She was in charge of cash flow, was responsible for all financial business and had unlimited access to business credit cards and PayPal accounts, Ravitch said.

A new bookkeeper initiated an investigation months after Cabrera resigned and noticed issues with past transactions and balances in one of the club’s accounts, Ravitch said.

Between 2012 and 2013, several suspicious money transfers and purchases of more than $8,000 were made to and from a Boys and Girls Club account to which only Cabrera had access, Ravitch said.

“This defendant, through her selfish actions, deprived Boys and Girls Club children of the benefit of supplies, programs, and services worth thousands of dollars,” Ravitch said.
