2012 Greenspan's Classic Azalea Car Show Cancelled

The rescheduled 2012 Azalea Greenspan's Classic Car show was not able to get enough participants or vendors for the event.

The has been forced to cancel the rescheduled third annual Greenspan Classic Azalea Car in because of too few car registrations.

“We put the event together and expected a bigger show then last year,” said , executive director of the South Gate Chamber of Commerce. “With our paid pre-registration [April 15th] date behind us it was pretty likely that we would not hit the target.”

The show had been rescheduled for April 29th, after fear of rain forced organizers to cancel its original date on March 18. 

The fear of not hitting target would be a problem for the vendors and car show enthusiasts who were expecting a large showing. The latter was seen as a serious dilemma by the board of directors of the South Gate Chamber of Commerce who unanimously voted to cancel the show.

“This decision was made in their best interest,” said Salazar, in reference to the few vendors’ and car show participants that had gone through and registered early.

Evan Greenspan, owner of , and lead organizer of the car show, which has bared his name for the past three years, expressed disappointment about this decision.  

“My feeling was that people were waiting for the last minute to register,” said Greenspan. “[However,] the board of directors did not have that confidence.”

The South Gate Chamber of Commerce says that it has already set aside March 17th as next years date for the classic car show.

“We have learned for this experience,” said Salazar. “We will hopefully come back with a bigger and better show.”
