South Gate Police Department along with the South Gate Youth Commission will host the second annual Student Youth Summit for high school students from the Southeast Los Angeles cities. The emphasis of the summit is to underscore the importance of youth in the community and how their active participationcan impact the quality of life in their communities. The planned workshops will empower and encourage high school students to emerge as leaders by taking an active role in government and civic related activities. The goals of this year's summit are to serve as the platform for life learning and personal development of all participating high school students.Participants will be challenged when deploying their critical thinking skills to find viable solutions to everyday problems they may encounter in their personal lives, schools, and community. The South Gate Youth Commission and subject matter experts from the South Gate Police Department and LAUSD will facilitate the day's structured events along with a Keynote address from a distinguished speaker.

Student participants will be representing South Gate High School, South East High School, International Studies Learning Center, Downey High School, Columbus High School and Warren High School.
