The city warns residents that traffic in the area will increased because of construction.
“This key intersection is already congested and will be impacted significantly by the proposed I-710 freeway widening project,” said the city press release.
The city says that the following areas around the intersection will be worked on:
“The project limit extends from Hunt Avenue to approximately 400 feet east of Atlantic Avenue on Firestone Boulevard, and from Firestone Boulevard to Patata Street on Atlantic Avenue. Sully Miller is the City’s Contractor for this project.”
Some traffic lanes will be closed temporarily because of construction. City officials involved with the project told Patch that some lanes will remain open.
“There will be two lanes open going in each direction during the day and one at night,” said Mohammad Mostakhami, Director of Public Works for the city of South Gate. “We want to be accommodating to both business and residences.“
Mostakhami also told Patch that the lane closures are not set in stone. There could be more lanes open during the course of a day if the construction timetable allows it.
The improvement project will be fully finished by August 2013.
