Former State Senator Gives out Toys in front of La Curacao

In celebration of the Three Kings Day, Martha Escutia, a former state senator of the 30^th district, hosted a toy give away in front of at Garfield Avenue earlier this afternoon. 

“There are a lot of underprivileged kids in this community that did not receive a present [on King’s Day],” said Escutia, who spent approximately $3,000 on the purchase of the toys. 

Parents attending the event said they were pleased with the presents that were given out during this festive occasion.

“They are giving back to the community, but most importantly to our kids,” said Emelba Serrano, whose son, Cesar, was given a small computer.

The event was also a promotional tool for Escutia who will soon launch “Hablando Derecho,” her own Spanish language radio show where she will lead a discussion and analysis program that covers issues affecting Latinos. The show will be aired on 94.3/105.5 FM and begin at 8 a.m. starting Sunday, January 15. 

“I want to provide [Latinos] with a space on radio where they can discuss issues that affect them,” said Escutia. “There isn’t a space where people can discuss politics and legal issues with an open line where [listeners] can call-in to discuss them.”

Parents at the event were eager to learn about the radio show after the announcement was made because they said they wanted to learn more about important issues that affect the Latino community.

“It is good idea because we will be able to learn more about new immigration laws and what they mean,” said Alma Ramos, who attended the event with her 4-year-old son, Edgar, and her 6-year-old daughter, Jocelyn.
