Let Them Eat Cake, They’ve Earned It

Lynwood's Neighborhood Block Watch celebrated a successful National Night Out during their regular meeting.

Last Tuesday, Lynwood’s Neighborhood Block Watch came together for their monthly meeting and a special celebration with cake, marking their efforts of the last National Night Out event in August.

The neighborhood block watch is a collective unit of Lynwood residents serving the community along with the Sherriff’s department. Lt. Ernie Chavez of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department was pleased and thankful of the Block Watch’s dedication.

“Without your efforts and concerns, we [Sherriff’s Dept.] would not be able to do our jobs as effectively, so I thank you all,” said Lt. Chavez.

In addition to celebrating their hardwork, the group also thanked councilwoman Maria Santillan-Beas for her monetary donation which helped buy captains polo shirts with block watch emblems.

Santillan-Beas previously donated money to the senior center's bingo club last summer. She used money left over from her short-lived campaign to run for an assembly seat earlier this year.

Other than cake, the meeting addressed issues concerning animal control as there have been too many stray dogs in Lynwood according to some, regulations and sanctions for the bar Los Globos, as well as the appointing of a new seargeant at arms, Lynwood resident Santiago Lopez.
