Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Set for New Tweedy Mile Signs

The Tweedy Boulevard ceremony will include remarks by the South Gate city manager and the meteorologist from Univision 34.

The three new monument signs that sit on opposing ends of Tweedy Boulevard will be properly introduced to residents in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday morning.

The signs are part of a strategy to revamp Tweedy Boulevard and inform visitors about the location of South Gate’s business district.

“The signs will give some enlightenment that there is business district and where the business district starts,” said David Torres, field operations manager for the city of South Gate. “We came up with this new design to create an atmosphere that the Tweedy Mile business district is being refurbished.”

The signs are also designed to showcase the importance of a business district.

“This is a way of letting the businesses know that we are revitalizing their community,” said Torres. “That they know that South Gate is a team player.”

Two of the signs are located at the intersection of Hunt Avenue and Tweedy Boulevard while the third is located at State Street and Tweedy Boulevard. The ceremony will include a welcome by Guillermo Quiroz, Univision 34 meteorologist, and closing remarks by George Troxcil, city manager for South Gate.

The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the cross-street of Tweedy Boulevard and State Street.
