Last night, at approximately 17th at about 8 33 in the evening the South Gate Police Department (SGPD) received a call from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) to assist them with a car accident at the intersection of Garfield Avenue and Southern Avenue.  The accident involved a deputy from a countywide unit, whose car crashed into telephone poll west side of Garfield Avenue and northern Southern Avenue. "Upon the arrival of the SGPD we observed that the telephone pole…had been completely severed from the ground," said Sgt. Patiño. The deputy was taken to a nearby hospital, and the street still closed due to the accident "We are trying to get the telephone company to respond and move the pole," said the Sgt. Patiño.
