Smoking Restrictions in Parks Among Topics on City Council Agenda

The City Council will take up the issue of expanding smoking limits in parks and other open air areas at its meeting tonight.

Today’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. will be the first of the year, with members taking up several topics of high interest in South Gate. Here are four of the most important happenings on the agenda:

1. The City Council will consider introducing an ordinance that will expand the restrictions on smoking to public parks and other open landscaped areas.

2. Newly appointed Chief of Police Randy Davis will be taking his oath of office with Los Angeles Court Judge Ana Maria Luna presiding.

3. The City Council will declare February as National Teen Dating Violence Prevention Month. This issue has spawned anti-violence workshops, such as at South East High School.

4. The City Council will entertain the adoption of a resolution that would call upon the Los Angeles Unified School District to redesign the “Multipurpose Room” of South Region High School#9 into an auditorium.
