The trial date for Abraham López, 18, who is accused of lethaly stabbing Cindi Santana, 17, his alleged ex-girlfriend at South East High School on September 2011, will most likely be set for December or January, according to the prosecution.
“The next pre-trial hearing is set for November 29,” said John Pomeroy, the prosecuting attorney assigned to this case. “There could be a trial within fifteen days of the hearing.”

Pomeroy warns, however, that December trial dates will at times be moved to January because of the holiday season.
The charges filed against López consist of murder, several instances of assault with a knife, as well others.

Last May, López pleaded not guilty during his arraignment.
During this past September’s pre-trial hearing, the prosecution and the defense were confident that a trial date would be decided by October 22nd.
However, according to Pomeroy, both sides need to review and exchange more forensic evidence, such as some recordings of witnesses, which have become available to them.
“We are exchanging information and that is the reason why there is one more pre-trial,” said Pomeroy. “It is really the last stages we always go through to prepare for a trial.”
