SGPD Officers Recognized for Recovery of Stolen Vehicles

The officers recovered a combined total of 22 vehicles in 2011.

On Tuesday, the South Gate City Council awarded certificates of appreciation to both officer Jason Camacho and officer Isidiro Munoz of the South Gate Police Department (SGPD) for their work in combating vehicle thefts.

Camacho and Munoz were awarded the 10851 Award by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) for their role in successfully recovering several stolen automobiles.

Sergeant Robert Marquez of the CHP presented the 10851 Award pins to the recipients during a brief ceremony.

“Anyone in the law enforcement game knows that a thief that steals car to quite possibly commit another crime,” said Sgt. Marquez. “[This] is really proactive crime fighting.”

Camacho was involved in recovering 20 vehicles and carrying out three auto theft arrests in 2011.

Munoz made 4 automobile theft related arrests in 2011 and was credited with recovering 12. This was also the second time that he was honored with a 10851 Award.

South Gate Mayor Bill De Witt commended the officers on behalf of the council.

“It is very good to give out credit when credit is due,” said De Witt. “We have officers with sharp eyes.”
