Televising of City Council Meetings to be Discussed Tonight

The possibility of televising City Council sessions and resolutions impacting the Los Angeles Unified School District will be considered during tonight's meeting.

Today’s regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. will be the last of this month, with members taking up several topics of high interest in South Gate. There will also be a Public Access Corp. meeting item at 5:15 pm.  

Here are five of the most important happenings of tonight:

1. At 5:15 p.m., the Board of Directors of the Public Access Corp., comprised of the members of the City Council, will discuss the possibility of televising council meetings.

2. Appointments will be made to the Citizen’s Advisory Committee and Outside Agencies. The former is a panel made up of South Gate residents who advise the city on municipal government issues, with a focus on the use of federal funds.

The latter are organizations to which members of the City Council are appointed to represent South Gate. They include the Los Angeles Vector District and Hub Cities Consortium. These county agencies include representatives of other municipalities and make decisions that affect the cities.

3. The City Council will consider adopting an ordinance to allow restaurants to serve alcohol on their private patios.

4. The City Council will consider a resolution asking the Los Angeles Unified School District to better their current parental engagement attempts.

5. The City Council will consider a proclamation opposing LAUSD funding cuts to adult education programs.
