Unemployment Rate in South Gate and Lynwood Improves Slightly
Both cities are still facing a double digit unemployment rate.

In August, South Gate and Lynwood both experienced a decrease in their registered number of unemployed residents.
For the month of August, South Gate registered a 14.2 percent unemployment rate, which was 1.1 percent less than the percent it had in July.

In August, Lynwood registered a total unemployment rate of 17.6 percent, which was 0.6 percent less than the rate that it had in July.
According to the Employment Development Department (EDD), the number of unemployed people in South Gate during August was 5,800, and in Lynwood 4,900.

The slight decrease still means that both cities have a much higher unemployment rate than that of Los Angeles County.
The county registered an 11 percent unemployment rate for August, which was slightly less than the 11.2 percent that it had in July.
The 11 percent unemployment rate was also less than the 12.5 percent rate that was registered for August 2011.
Nearby, Downey registered an unemployment rate of 9 percent, Cudahy's stood at 15.5 percent, Huntington Park's at 16.6 percent, Paramount's at 16.3 percent, and Compton recorded the highest rate with an 18.9 percent.
Statewide, California had about 1.93 million unemployed people in August, which was down from the 1.96 million it had in July.
