Skylake Ranch Brings Winter to Summer
A vendor who specializes in all things pomegranate makes it possible for us to enjoy a winter favorite anytime of year.
Unlike most other states, the temperature simply cannot be used as a gauge for the season here in California. One day we may find ourselves in flip-flops and shorts while the very next week we’re bundled in scarves and jackets possibly hunched beneath an umbrella cursing despite what the 10-day forecast had warned.
But as we wait for the weather to reach a more even keel, we can feel some seasonal stability by heeding what’s available at our local farmers market. And for those of us who find it difficult to bid farewell to certain seasonal goods, there’s one vendor at the South Pasadena Farmers Market who helps “preserve” one of winter’s treasures and curb those feelings of loss.
With 20 acres and nearly 4,000 pomegranate trees, Skylake Ranch’s signature sauces, marinades and fruit spreads allow the sweet taste of one of winter’s most beautiful fruits to be savored well into the summer months. Having set up shop at the South Pasadena Farmers Market about one month ago, Skylake’s unobtrusive booth is located on El Centro Street in front of and to the left of . The family-owned business has been distributing to farmers markets and natural food stores across Northern and Southern California for the last four years and has seemingly made quite the impression on South Pas Farmers Market goers. And for good reason.

Skylake’s four signature pomegranate products may seem limiting at first glance—that is until you learn of the multitude of uses for each. For instance, the company's balsamic grill sauce can be used on any kind of meat while their dual-purpose marinade is great as a salad dressing. Their pomegranate syrup, on the other hand, can be used as an antioxidant-full alternative to maple syrup on your pancakes or drizzled over a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. For a grown-up version of the kid-favorite PB&J, slather a layer of almond butter and Skylake’s Pomegranate Fruit Spread onto some nutty, whole wheat toast. Although there’s really no wrong way to use Skylake products, visit the Skylake Ranch website for even more recipe ideas and to get those creative juices flowing.
With absolutely no high fructose corn syrup and a high concentration of immunity-boosting antioxidants, Skylake’s pomegranate products just might be the next best thing to eating the actually fruit. Pick up any one of their sauces or syrups at your next visit to the South Pasadena Farmers Market, and keep one of winter’s wonders in your pantry all year long.
