Awards and scholarships were presented to students in the class of 2011 Wednesday night.
Graduating seniors were recognized and presented with thousands of dollars in scholarships from a variety of organizations and individuals Wednesday at 's Awards Night.
Of the many scholarships and awards given each year to South Pasadena High School seniors, the school considers the Weldon Fairplay Awards to be the most prestigious. Chosen by a committee of 13 SPHS adults and 12 students, criteria includes integrity, responsibility, good sportsmanship and fairness.
The Weldon Awards were established in 1929 by William R.H. Weldon, a long-time resident of South Pasadena. He was a member of the school board for many years and Board President in 1929. Four of his six sons also attended school in South Pasadena.

Weldon’s interest in fair play and leadership led him to create this award now in its 82nd year. The names of all the recipients since 1929 are engraved on the same trophy; three senior girls and three boys are presented the award every year.
Other awards include: The Crary Sportsmanship Award, the Karen Offenhauser Memorial Award, the Aydin Salek Leadership Scholarship, the Sina Massoumi Memorial Awards, the Andy Wang Award, the Dickson Athletic Heritage and Showcase Athlete Awards and the Alumni Association Scholarships. New this year were: Ellin Lieberman Award, the Eddie and Iris Lee Award, Mr./Ms South Pasadena Award (both sponsored by the Lee family) and the AYSO Scholarship.
