Canepa: Casting Ballot For June 5 Primary Should Not Be Confusing
'Voter's Choice Act' historic move to increase voter turnout.

From San Mateo County Supervisor David J. Canepa: San Mateo County Supervisor David J. Canepa reminds residents they can cast their ballots at a variety of voting centers leading up to the June 5 primary. Currently, nine voting centers are open in the county including at Daly City Hall. Starting Saturday, June 2, an additional 30 voting centers will open throughout the county. With the demise of local neighborhood polling centers, voters are urged to mail in their ballots or cast them at a voting center.
“San Mateo County is at the forefront in all of California as far as increasing voter turnout goes. While the trend to vote by mail has steadily increased over the years, voters still want and need options if we want to increase participation,” Canepa said.
San Mateo and Yolo counties were the first in the state to conduct all-mail ballot elections under the Voter’s Choice Act. The program was so successful, it is now being extended throughout the state.

“The Voter’s Choice Act ushers in increased opportunities to cast ballots, boosts the resources available to voters with disabilities and leverages technologies to allow a voter to access their own individual ballot at all 39 voting centers,” Canepa said. “Some may be confused initially by the loss of neighborhood polling places but I’m confident those who want to vote and participate will have every option to.”
Voters can cast their ballot by mail, drop it off at a voting center or fill it out at the vote center by paper or electronically.
