Mountain Lion Attacks 6-year-old Boy in Cupertino

The boy was hospitalized following the Sunday incident.

Authorities are searching for a mountain lion in Cupertino that sent a 6-year-old boy to the hospital Sunday afternoon, according to Santa Clara County Sgt. Curtis Stenderup.

The animal’s attack was reported around 1:15 p.m. on Montebello Road - a hiking trail near Pichetti Winery.

Stenderup said that officials with the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, as well as sheriff’s deputies have closed all hiking trails in the area and established a perimeter.

The child suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Stenderup said.
