Poetry Workshop with San Mateo County Poet Laureate, Caroline Goodwin
Please celebrate National Poetry Month with the South San Francisco Public Library and San Mateo County Poet Laureate, Caroline Goodwin.

One of the joys of writing poetry is that we have the freedom to bend the rules of grammar. In this workshop, participants will begin by free-writing about their heritage. Then, we will discuss techniques for shaping a free-write into a more formal piece using a rhetorical device called anaphora. The workshop will conclude with a reading by the participants.
Poetry Is Heritage is part of the San Mateo County Poet Laureate community art project βPoetry Is.β During the month of April, we will be collecting poems by poets living in San Mateo County, and several poets will be selected to read their work at an event in May (date TBA).β¨β¨Caroline Goodwin was born and raised in Alaska. Her poems and essays have been published in such journals as The New Republic, Junction Box, Puerto del Sol, PRISM international, and eleven eleven. She is the author of the poetry collections Trapline (2013) and Peregrine (2015) and is currently serving as San Mateo Countyβs first Poet Laureate.
This free event will take place Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 1:00 p.m., at South San Francisco Main Public Library in our upstairs programming area.
