Police Warn About More Scams Targeting Residents

Several people have reported the would-be scam artists in recent days to the South San Francisco Police Department.

The South San Francisco Police Department is warning the public about scams targeting residents and claiming they owe money to agencies and need to pay money to clear up the matter.

Police said several victims received calls in recent days from someone informing them they owed money to agencies like the Internal Revenue Service or the U.S. Department of Treasury and needed provide a payment over the phone to avoid an immediate arrest.

The victims did not fall for the scams and contacted police.

Police said the scams usually involve an unknown person contacting the victim and telling them to load money on a prepaid card and provide the caller with the card information.
