The following is a news release from the city of Belmont:
The search for missing Belmont resident Paul Merrill intensified Wednesday in the Mt. Shasta area, with the deployment of Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue. This follows additional reported sightings of Merrill and his car.
Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue along with ground and air resources from the California Highway Patrol, intensified the search for Paul Merrill, who disappeared after leaving a gas station in McCloud, CA on Thursday. This follows an air and ground search by patrol units, that began on Tuesday as a result of tips called into Belmont Police.
Tips were phoned into the Belmont Police Tip Line on Monday night, reporting two possible sightings over the weekend. The first was a report that Merrill’s car, a silver 1956 Mercedes Convertible, was seen parked at the side of the road on Hwy 89, approximately 15 miles east of McCloud. Another tip reported that a man, matching Merrill’s description, was seen walking in the forest near Cattle Camp. Both areas were searched Tuesday, with negative results.
