The Urban Archeologist: VD and that burning sensation

Salacious title, isn't it? The fact of the matter is that VD was a real problem for enlisted men during WWII and during other global conflicts.

There was a need for a marketing campaign that would reach every man. There were many poster campaigns, films on the topic, " When Syphilis Comes Marching Home Again"  ( I made that up)  and, of course, matchbooks.

I found this sample in an old cigar box. Bear in mind, when looking for treasure at a sale, leave no cigar box unopened. They always seem to have something interesting inside.
