Emmy-Winning Producer Gets Prison for Stabbing Studio City Roommate
A producer and actor who played a landlord that kills renters, gets prison for stabbing a renter who laughed at his Oscar ambitions.
STUDIO CITY, CA — A man who won a Daytime Emmy award as a co-producer of the online soap opera "The Bay" was convicted Thursday of stabbing his tenant, who laughed after he said he would win five Academy Awards.
Andre Salaman Bautista, 38, of Studio City, was found guilty in a non- jury trial of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, with knife use and great bodily injury allegations found to be true.
Bautista stabbed his tenant in the chest on Sept. 8, 2015, after the man laughed when Bautista said he would win five Oscars, according to testimony presented during the trial.

Bautista had previously written and starred in an independent movie about a landlord who killed his tenants, according to evidence presented in court.

Bautista surrendered later to authorities at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City. He has remained in jail since then.
Bautista -- who won his Daytime Emmy under the name Andre Bauth -- is due back in a Van Nuys courtroom for sentencing March 22. He is facing up to 13 years in state prison.
