Valley Elementary School TA Imprisoned For Molesting Students

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — A former North Hollywood elementary school teacher's assistant was sentenced to eight years in prison for molesting six girls Monday.

Lino Cabrera, 27, was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Eric Harmon also issued a 10-year protective order for the victims.

Cabrera, of San Fernando, pleaded no contest in January to one felony count each of continuous sexual abuse and committing a lewd act on a child under 14, along with four misdemeanor counts of child molestation, in exchange for the negotiated sentence.

Allegations of his inappropriate behavior arose in mid-May last year, and an investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department's Sexually Exploited Child Unit determined there were at least six victims, ages 10 and 11.

Prosecutors said the lewd conduct occurred between September 2016 and last May.

All of the victims were Oxnard Street Elementary students, Los Angeles Unified School District officials said at the time.

"The employee was removed from the Oxnard Street school in May, when the initial allegation was made, and parents were notified at that time," according to a district statement issued last year.

Cabrera has been held without bail since his arrest last June, according to online jail records.
