Solano College Theater returns to the Suisun Waterfront this summer with the popular German tragicomic, “The Visit.”
The production, includes a cast of 20 students from the acclaimed theater arts program, and is directed by George Maguire.
“'The Visit' was chosen for the plaza because there’s a very large cast and will be performed best in a large staging area,” said Jim Jones, a cast member.

This will be the third year the theater group will perform for free at the waterfront, an event made possible by sponsors. Jones, too, is returning for a third consecutive performance.
“Two years ago we started with 'Much Ado About Nothing,' Shakespeare’s comedy, and last year we did 'Romeo and Juliet' there,” said Jones.

“The Visit,” written by Friedrich Durrenmatt, is a tale of the city of Gullen, which is in a state of despair and extreme poverty. Residents of the city prepare for the arrival of billionairess Claire Zachanassian, a native who announces she is willing to help the residents financially. She is willing to donate half a billion dollars to the city, and half a billion to be split among the families, but the help comes under “one horrifying condition.”
“I think people will like it,” said Jones. “Not only is this an excellent play, a classic play from Germany, but it’s the equivalent of 'Death of a Salesman,' in sense of renown and popularity.”
Cast members include both veteran and new actors. Carla Spindt of Suisun City is Claire Zachanassian; Jon Hale of Walnut Creek is Anton Schill; Terry Rucker of Vallejo is the Mayor; Barbara McFadden of Fairfield is the Teacher; Jim Jones of Napa is the Pastor; Bobby Ellison of Vacaville is Bobby; and Faustino Cadiz of Vallejo and Princess Washington of Suisun City are The Two Blind Men.
“George Maguire is such a talented director, he always brings in wonderful music,” said Jones. “People will be singing, Some of the cast will be singing, and then we’ll have music prerecorded as well.”
“The Visit” is rated G and will be at Harbor Plaza June 25 -27, and then returning for August 3 -4. Showtimes for each night begins at 7:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets to sit on, and suggest they dress warmly.
