55 Traffic Stops Over 6-Hour Period In Temecula

TEMECULA, CA — Motorists who were speeding or otherwise driving unsafely in Temecula on Wednesday may be paying a financial price.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department announced that deputies from its Southwest Station were out in force, from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. Wednesday, targeting unsafe drivers across the city.

The "Traffic Enforcement Saturation" patrol was aimed at helping to prevent and reduce the number of traffic collisions within Temecula, according to the sheriff's department.

During the six-hour period, deputies made 55 traffic stops for various violations, the agency said. Seventeen traffic citations were written, three field sobriety tests were conducted with one arrest, and there was one arrest for driving on a suspended driver’s license, according to the department.

More operations are planned later in the year, according to the sheriff's department.

Funding for the Saturation Patrol was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
