California Gaming Association wrote to Newsom that he has the AUTHORITY to order casinos closed in the compact they signed with the state.Sec. 12.1. General Requirements.The Tribe shall not conduct Class III Gaming in a manner that endangers the public health, safety, or welfare, provided, however, that nothing herein shall be construed to make applicable to the Tribe any state laws or regulations governing the use of tobacco.In short, if your office has made a determination that gambling facilities pose a risk to the health and safety of the public in certain counties, we ask that you call upon ALL gaming operators in the targeted counties to close.
SOVEREIGN right, doesn't make it right. Tribes shut down the first time in what was a PR move. Now, they either believe in protecting our health, or they don't. Our governor can use the compact language to protect us, or the Coronavirus danger is bovine excrement. Tribes got PAID (albeit late) they are a business like all others. They should follow the Governor's plan.
