TEMECULA, CA — A 50-year-old woman who died over the weekend following injuries sustained in a Temecula crash ran a stop sign, the California Highway Patrol reported Monday.

Michelle Jeffers of Temecula was heading westbound on Madera De Playa Road around 4:50 p.m. Saturday when for unknown reasons she ran the stop sign at the intersection of Calle Contento in Wine Country, according to CHP Officer Mike Lassig.

The 60-year-old Murrieta driver behind the wheel of a 2018 Ford SUV, heading north on Calle Contento at about 35 mph, could not brake in time and broadsided Jeffers' 2007 Mercedes E350 driver-side door, Lassig said.
