Motorcyclist Run Over, Killed On I-15 In Hit-And-Run Crash In Temecula: CHP

CHP officers say that a pickup truck driver struck the man who had just been ejected from his bike after losing control.

TEMECULA, CA — One man is dead following a tragic wreck on Interstate 15 in Temecula Wednesday morning, the California Highway Patrol reports. Now, officials are looking for whomever struck him as he lay in the roadway after crashing.

CHP reports indicate that around 8:50 a.m. the motorcyclist was headed north on I-15, just north of Winchester Road, while traveling at an estimated 75 mph in the rightmost lane. Meanwhile, a 17-year-old Temecula boy was also headed northbound on the 15, directly in front of the motorcyclist, in a 2014 Toyota Prius. In front of both of them was a 44-year-old Temecula woman in a 2017 Honda Accord.

"As the three vehicles proceeded, [the Prius] began to change lanes to the left into the number 3 lane," a CHP report states. "Simultaneously, [the motorcycle] which was traveling at a great rate of speed than [the Prius], also began to change lanes to the left into the number 3 lane where it struck the left rear of [the Prius]."

At that point, the man on the motorcycle lost control and fell.

"The impact caused [the motorcycle] to lose control and veer to the right ejecting the rider between the number 3 and number 4 lanes where he was struck by an unidentified pickup truck which continued without stopping," the CHP said.

The bike was thrown back into the number 4 lane, hitting the side of the Accord, according to officials. The rider died at the scene from his injuries.

CHP officials tell Patch that they don't yet have a description of the vehicle that hit the man, other than the fact that it was a pickup truck. They are looking for any witnesses to the collision and asked those who may have information call (951) 506-2000.
