TEMECULA, CA — Reform California will host a "YES on Recall" rally Saturday at Temecula Duck Pond to persuade voters to vote yes on the upcoming gubernatorial recall election.

The 9 a.m. Reform California rally in the 28250 block of Ynez Road will feature guest speakers and will kick off the group's door-to-door campaign in Southern California, according to organizers.

A second Riverside County Reform California rally is scheduled at 3 p.m. Saturday at La Quinta's East Valley Republican Headquarters, 78870 block of CA-111.

Reform California chairman Carl DeMaio said the group's efforts "won't be outworked on the ground with our growing team of grassroots volunteers."

DeMaio, a Republican, served a single term as a member of the San Diego City Council, from 2008 to 2012. He subsequently made several unsuccessful runs for political seats, including Mayor of San Diego, California's 52nd Congressional District, and California's 50th Congressional District.

Reform California cited rising taxes, justice policies, homelessness and what it called a failing school system as reasons for its recall campaign on its website. Although the group advocates for recall of Gov. Gavin Newsom, it did not endorse an alternative candidate.

Newsom, meanwhile, will be barnstorming the state over the weekend to campaign against the recall effort. He began the effort Friday in San Francisco, saying the stakes of the election are "profound" and again condemning the recall effort as a Republican power grab.

Newsom is expected to hold campaign events in Los Angeles and San Diego on Saturday, with additional events expected Sunday.

During his San Francisco event Saturday, Newsom said he anticipates President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to both make appearances on his behalf in the coming weeks. Biden issued a statement in support of the governor on Thursday.

The 2021 California Gubernatorial Recall Election is scheduled Sept. 14.
