CHP Conducts Pedestrian Safety Operation In French Valley

FRENCH VALLEY, CA — A pedestrian safety enforcement operation was underway Wednesday morning in French Valley, focusing on motorists and pedestrians who fail to yield the right-of-way or who take unsafe and illegal actions, the California Highway Patrol's Temecula Area Office announced.

The CHP operation took place at Winchester and Benton roads from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

“Regrettably, CHP, Temecula Area’s most recent fatal traffic collision involving a pedestrian occurred on December 20, 2019,” the agency said. “The CHP is committed to preventing these tragic deaths and is leading the effort with proactive enforcement and education programs.”

The CHP was conducting the public awareness and enforcement program to educate and encourage members of the community to develop and maintain safe practices while driving, walking, and bicycling throughout Southwest Riverside County, the agency continued.

Officers dressed in plain clothes were crossing the street while uniformed officers monitored the crosswalk for motorists and pedestrians who failed to yield right-of-way. Drivers and pedestrians stopped during the safety operation were being issued warnings or citations.
