Sinkhole Reported In Temecula, Drivers Urged To Steer Clear

City officials say a water main break in the area is to blame.

TEMECULA, CA — A sinkhole formed in Temecula on Wednesday afternoon, the city reported. The hole is located on Ynez Road, just north of Winchester Road, and was first spotted just before 4 p.m.

City officials asked drivers to avoid the area on Wednesday afternoon, as traffic was blocked off. All lanes were closed for a brief time between County Center Drive and Winchester Road, but as of Wednesday evening, one northbound lane was reopened to traffic.

"One northbound lane in the affected area will remain open while city crews repair the roadway," Temecula police reported on Facebook. The southbound lanes remained closed.

Repair crews were sent to the location to assist, according to the city of Temecula.
