Temecula Council’s Decision on Mayor Stewart Vacancy

On 6/23, Tuesday, Temecula city council discussed what to do with the vacancy left from Mayor Stewart after his resignation.

The council has decided that they will let the impending November election play out and fill the vacancy of Mayor Stewart’s open seat after his resignation for racial inflammatory comments.

They had the choice of either going through an appointment process, special election or to wait until the general election which is taking place in November.

“They opted to leave the seat vacant until filled via the upcoming general election process in November.”

The city chambers are now open, but are under COVID-19 regulations (like everything else), but the council meeting on Tuesday was not open to the public and a video stream will be provided in a “day or so,” says Butler.
