Temecula Donates Electric Motorcars to County Fire Department

The vehicles, which resemble golf carts, are needed to shuttle personnel at the Clark Training Center.

TEMECULA, CA – The Board of Supervisors Tuesday accepted a donation of two electric carts from the city of Temecula for use by the Riverside County Fire Department to haul people and equipment around at the Ben Clark Public Safety Training Center.

In a 5-0 vote without comment, the board accepted the city's offer of the GEM carts, each valued at about $1,200.

According to the fire department, the 14-year-old electric vehicles, which resemble golf carts, are needed to shuttle personnel and gear between administrative offices and drill grounds at the Clark Training Center, which is located in southeast Riverside, near the Moreno Valley city boundary.

Both fire and law enforcement classes are conducted at the facility year- round.

According to county staff, the carts will cost about $400 annually to maintain.

Temecula officials did not specify why the e-vehicles were no longer needed by the municipality.
