Temecula DUI Checkpoint Announced

Police announced this week an upcoming DUI / driver's license checkpoint.

TEMECULA, CA — The Temecula Police Department this week announced an upcoming DUI/ driver's license checkpoint in town. The operation is set for Friday, Aug. 24 at an undisclosed location within Temecula city limits.

The checkpoint is set to begin at 8 p.m. and last for 5.5 hours, police said.

"Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized proactive DUI operations are conducted routinely," police said in a press release. "DUI Checkpoints like this one are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, affording the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence."

Motorists are urged to always designate a sober driver.

Funding for the operation comes from state and federal grants.
