Temecula Mayor Pro Tem Maryann Edwards Named 5th Assembly District Woman Of Year
The community leader and accomplished singer has demonstrated history of service.

SACRAMENTO, CA - Assemblymember Marie Waldron, R-Escondido, today honored Temecula Mayor Pro Tem Maryann Edwards as the 2016 Woman of the Year for the 75th Assembly District during a special Assembly ceremony at the State Capitol.
“Maryann Edwards exemplifies the best and the brightest of today’s busy woman,” said Waldron. “Maryann’s accomplishments over the years add up to a life dedicated to serving children, students, and a lifetime commitment to civic engagement. Her continued devotion to the success of those around her makes her the perfect choice for "Woman of the Year 2016". ”

For nearly 30 years, Edwards has been active in Temecula and Riverside County, elected to the Temecula city council in 2005, she currently serves as Mayor Pro Tem. Maryann has worked with local agencies and has served on the board of directors for dozens of non-profits.
As CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Riverside, Director of the Riverside County Habitat Conservation Authority, Riverside County First 5 Commission Advisory and the Founding Director of Safe Alternatives for Everyone, Edwards has helped numerous children and victims of domestic violence while also focusing on education, the environment and public safety.

Last year, Edwards was a panelist at the White House Summit on Education and was instrumental in the establishment of the California State University San Marcos, Temecula campus which opened in 2009.
Prior to coming to California, Edwards was the University Ambassador for the University of Nevada, Reno and the lead vocalist for “Sounds of Reno" Jazz Ensemble. When she arrived in Southern California, Edwards became a full-time singer/recording artist, singing and recording at Disneyland and performing with Mel Torme, Tony Bennett, Neil Sedaka, Vikki Carr, John Denver, Donna Summer and other industry legends.
