Temecula Pedestrians To See New Safety Equipment Citywide

Butterfield Stage Road, Redhawk Pkwy., Pechanga Pkwy., Rancho California Road, Temecula Pkwy., and Ynez Road corridors will see upgrades.

TEMECULA, CA — A project to improve pedestrian crossings throughout Temecula's main traffic corridors got final signoff this month.

In a unanimous vote on Dec. 14, Temecula City Council members awarded a $773,060 construction bid for the project to Escondido-headquartered Baker Electric, Inc. The award also includes an additional maximum of $77,306 for change orders.

The project calls for installing pedestrian countdown signal heads, ADA-compliant pedestrian pushbutton equipment, and upgrading traffic signal controllers to improve safety and operations at signalized intersections citywide, including the Butterfield Stage Road, Redhawk Parkway, Pechanga Parkway, Rancho California Road, Temecula Parkway, and Ynez Road corridors.

The construction contract was publicly advertised for bids between September 7, 2021, and October 7, 2021. Fifteen bids were received, and Baker Electric was the lowest bidder, city documents show.

The project is identified in the city’s Capital Improvement Program Budget for Fiscal Years 2022-2026. It is funded with Highway Safety Improvement Program grant funding and Measure S, according to city documents.

The project is expected to be completed before the current fiscal year ends on June 30, 2022, according to city documents.
