Temecula Officer-Involved Shooting: One Reported Dead

Details are limited at this time, but residents should steer clear of the area as it's been blocked off and the courthouse is closed.

TEMECULA, CA — Patch has learned that a deadly officer-involved shooting happened this morning in Temecula, but details surrounding the case are limited at this time.

According to witnesses and sources, the incident happened around 10:30 a.m. near the probate courthouse in the area of Winchester and Ynez roads. Several police units have been spotted in the area, and the area in front of the facility has been blocked off with yellow caution tape.

Patch has learned the suspect died of injuries following the incident. ABC7 News also reports the death.

Witnesses reported hearing at least two shots ring out, and at least one bystander described what appeared to be a domestic dispute situation between the suspect and a female, ABC7 reported.

Sheriff's officials say the officer was not shot. Other injuries are not known.

Temecula Police Chief Jeff Kubel wrote on Facebook that the investigation is ongoing.

"Sorry, I cannot provide much information because of our investigation," he said. "I can tell you there is no threat to the public and we are not looking for any suspects related to this incident. That's all the information I can provide at this time."

Officials with the Riverside County Superior Court tell Patch that the Temecula courthouse at 41002 County Center Dr. — not to be confused with the Southwest Justice Center — is closed until further notice.
