Temecula's Measure S Losing by Small Margin in Preliminary Returns

However, there are still thousands of ballots that must be tallied.

TEMECULA, CA – Nearly 24 hours after Election Day, a proposed measure in Temecula to hike local sales tax appears poised for rejection, however election officials say there are still thousands of ballots that have yet to be counted.

As of Wednesday evening, Measure S was failing by just 166 votes. There are currently 12,286 'nos' and 12,116 'yeses.'

Though it currently appears that the measure has failed to garner enough support to raise sales tax by one percent, there are approximately 182,000 vote-by-mail, 67,000 provisional and 12,500 damaged ballots that require duplication which still must be processed, according to the registrar's office. Though that number is on the county level, thousands of them belong in Temecula, the city says.
