Think 'There Ought to be a Law for That?' Temecula's State Senator Wants to Hear From YOU!

Sorry, parents. This one's for the kiddos.

TEMECULA, CA- Temecula Valley's state senator Wednesday reopened the annual "There Ought to Be a Law" competition and encouraged high school students across the 28th Congressional District to submit legislative proposals.

The contest solicits legislative solutions to county and statewide issues, with the winning proposal to be introduced by Sen. Jeff Stone, R-La Quinta, at a future legislative hearing.

Last year's winner among 70 submissions was Rancho Mirage High School senior Alyson White, who proposed SB 1395, which sought to double the fines and prison sentences of those convicted of animal abuse.

"By asking our high school students to propose new laws, I am hoping to tap into their bright, inquisitive minds and also to inspire them to get involved in politics and public service," Stone said. "I am looking for proposed legislation that addresses issues on both the local and statewide level."

Entry forms can be found at www.Senate.CA.Gov/Stone .

High school principals, teachers and staff interested in getting their students involved may contact John Hunneman, Stone's communications director, at (951) 894-3530 or email him at john.hunneman@sen.ca.gov

The deadline to submit proposed legislation is Dec. 2.
