Thunder Sounds, Explosions, Coming From Camp Pendleton
Residents unfamiliar with the noise sometimes mistake it for thunder or sonic booms.

SOUTHWEST RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Those house-rattling booms that are rocking Southwest Riverside County Tuesday night are expected to continue through at least Feb. 15, officials at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton advised.
A noise advisory was issued by the base due to live-fire exercises the troops are conducting in the Whiskey/Zulu Impact area of Camp Pendleton, base officials reported. The impact area is west of Temecula, and as the crow flies, is less than 20 air miles from the city.
The exercises run from 6 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. daily and involve troops firing high-explosive munitions.
