• How a Truckee food pantry is expanding food rescue after federal funding cuts (kunr.org) — Truckee’s only community food pantry, run by Sierra Community House, is scrambling to replace lost federal funding that once covered most of its fresh produce. Staff now rescue about 22,000 pounds of food monthly from regional grocery stores to keep hundreds of local households, including many first-time food bank users, supplied with nutritious groceries despite rising living costs.

• Truckee River Watershed Council on track to complete Coldstream Canyon Lower Floodplain Restoration Project this fall (sierrasun.com) — Work is underway to restore the Coldstream Canyon lower floodplain along Cold Creek near Truckee’s Legacy Trail, with construction expected to wrap up this fall. The Truckee River Watershed Council project will add new floodplain and riparian habitat, reduce erosion, and improve water quality flowing into the Truckee River, while keeping the popular trail open with occasional traffic control.

• Heat wave forcasted Friday into next week (tahoedailytribune.com) — Truckee is expected to see highs near the 90s starting Friday as a regional heat wave settles over the Tahoe area and nearby valleys. With triple digits forecast in surrounding cities and more visitors heading for the mountains, residents are urged to stay hydrated, seek shade or air conditioning, and check on vulnerable neighbors through next weekend.
