Stolen Vehicle Chase on I-880 Ends With Union City Crash, 1 Arrest

BREAKING: The suspect slammed into two cars at the intersection of Alvarado-Niles and Decoto roads, police said.

UNION CITY, CA — UPDATE: MONDAY, MARCH 6, 2:12 p.m.

A vehicle pursuit on that began on Interstate Highway 880 ended when a person suspected of driving a stolen car collided with two other vehicles in Union City this afternoon, according to police.

At about 11:50 a.m., police in Union City received a report of a pursuit on the highway involving the California Highway Patrol and a person in a stolen vehicle, police Sgt. Steve Mendez said.

When the pursuit continued onto city streets, the suspect driver then crashed into two other vehicles that were stopped at a red light at the intersection of Alvarado-Niles and Decoto roads, Mendez said.

That intersection remains closed and is expected to reopen by about 2:15 p.m.

One person inside the suspect vehicle was arrested, while another person in the vehicle fled and has not been located. The identity of the person who was arrested was not immediately released, according to Mendez.

Occupants in the other involved vehicles suffered minor injuries, but were not taken to a hospital, Mendez said.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area near Alvarado-Niles Canyon and Decoto roads following a collision this afternoon, police officials said. The crash was reported at about 12:10 p.m., according to the Pulsepoint phone application.

No other information was available.
