Final DUI Score in L.A. County for Labor Day: 1,982 Arrests

Seventy-four of the arrests came as a result of car crashes during an 18-period ending Monday.

A task force of law enforcement officers arrested 1,982 people for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs in Los Angeles County during an 18-day period that ended on Labor Day, authorities said today.

The Avoid the 100 DUI Task force conducted stepped-up patrols and numerous DUI checkpoints during the enforcement effort, which began at 12:01 a.m. Aug. 15 and ended at 11:59 p.m. Monday, said Wendy Brewer of the Glendora Police Department.

“Tragically, of these 1,982 (suspects), 74 of them were arrested for DUI only after being involved in a crash causing injury to themselves and/or innocent travelers on our roads and highways,” Brewer said.
