Homeless Man Denied Food Accused Of Stabbing Restaurant Worker At Santa Monica Pier: Police

SANTA MONICA, CA – A 34-year-old homeless man on probation who allegedly walked into the kitchen of a restaurant on the Santa Monica Pier and stabbed one person and attempted to stab another was being held Thursday on $1 million bail.
The suspect, identified as Calvin Earl Gullett, entered Pier Burger at 330 Santa Monica Pier about 10:50 a.m. Wednesday and demanded food from employees, but was denied, according to Santa Monica Police Department Lt. Saul Rodriguez.
"The suspect proceeded to walk into the kitchen area of the restaurant and assault an employee with a knife. The victim was struck multiple times, Rodriguez said. "The suspect attempted to attack another victim/employee but did not strike the second victim."

Gullett fled but responding officers found him on the beach just north of the pier, according to Rodriguez
"The suspect did not comply with officers and a Taser was deployed to make an arrest," Rodriguez said. "The suspect was taken into custody and evidence of the crime was located nearby."

The victim was treated at the scene then taken to a hospital, where he remains in stable condition, according to Rodriguez.
Gullett was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and a probation violation. It was not immediately clear for what he was on probation.
Gullett was being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles and was due to appear at the Airport Courthouse on Friday, according to sheriff's online inmate records.
