Today's riddle: What is clean when it is black and dirty when it is white? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. After More Than a Decade, Inland Rail Trail Finally Reaches Central Vista (streetsblog.org) — Vista residents can now bike or walk a new 1.1-mile Inland Rail Trail segment from Mar Vista Drive to Civic Center Drive, creating over 12 miles of continuous, traffic-separated path into central Vista. The $27.9 million project adds lighting, landscaping, drainage and a pocket park, while a final two-mile stretch toward North Drive still awaits funding and design decisions.
2. Vista chamber announces annual 'Heroes' award honorees (thecoastnews.com) — Vista residents can celebrate local heroes at the Nov. 6 Heroes of Vista awards gala, where 16 honorees—from firefighters and educators to business leaders—will be recognized at the Vista Optimist Club. Proceeds support the Vista Education Foundation and Vista Chamber Foundation, which fund scholarships, internships, and programs for Vista students. Tickets and details are available through the Vista Chamber.
3. County expands use of inmate health monitoring wristbands in jails (fox5sandiego.com) — Vista residents should know the county has expanded health-monitoring wristbands to inmates at the Vista Detention Facility, aiming to catch medical emergencies earlier. The voluntary program has already prompted lifesaving care, even as recent in-custody deaths and plans to replace the aging Vista jail keep local jail conditions under scrutiny.
4. San Jose has seen some success with homelessness. Can San Diego learn from it? (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Vista will benefit from $8 million in state funding for the planned Buena Creek Navigation Center, highlighted during a regional homelessness summit in Carlsbad. Leaders compared San Jose and San Diego strategies, stressing data, interim housing, and behavioral health treatment as they look for approaches that could shape how Vista and nearby cities address unsheltered homelessness.
