19 New Cases Of Coronavirus In Contra Costa County

While coronavirus continues to spread, California's death toll hit a new milestone.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY — County health officials working to snuff-out new cases of coronavirus delivered bad news on Wednesday — 19 new cases have been confirmed, bringing the total in Contra Costa County to 985. The bright spot in Wednesday's report — there were no new deaths, leaving the county's death toll at 29.

Across California, the death toll has surpassed the milestone of 2,500.

The latest report from Johns Hopkins University shows that 2,511 people have died in the golden state, and 59,833 have confirmed cases.

In the US, deaths have passed the 70,000 mark. Americans confirmed to have lost their lives to coronavirus: 73,039, while 1.2 million have confirmed diagnoses for the virus.

Around the world, 263,068 people are known to have died from coronavirus, and 3,744,585 cases have been confirmed.

Nordstrom, which temporarily closed all stores nationwide in March because of coronavirus, announced Wednesday that 16 stores will remain closed permanently. There are Nordstrom department stores and Nordstrom Rack outlet stores in seven East Bay cities including Dublin, Emeryville, Fremont, Pleasant Hill, Pleasanton, San Leandro, and Walnut Creek. The locations of the closed stores were not announced.

An award-winning chef-restaurateur will open a new Mexican restaurant in Walnut Creek. He currently operates restaurants in El Cerrito, Emeryville, and San Rafael.
