6 Coronavirus Deaths In Contra Costa County In June
Contra Costa coronavirus deaths had dwindled to almost nothing at the end of May, but June is another story.
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY — There's bad news on the coronavirus front: more deaths. As Contra Costa County makes slow but steady progress in efforts to reopen the economy following shelter-in-place orders, the county health department reports that the death toll in Contra Costa County is now 43.
In the first eight day of June, six people have died of coronavirus, Contra Costa Health Services reports. Compare that to the last eight day of May when just one person died.
Across the Bay Area, 239 people are hospitalized with complications from COVID-19, the illness caused by coronavirus, an increase of five since yesterday. The increase is despite deaths reported in five Bay Area Counties: Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa Clara, San Mateo, and San Francisco.

Statewide, the death toll is 4,681.
In other developments, a scam warning has been issued by California's Attorney General, warning residents that phony coronavirus contact tracers are stealing private information such as social security numbers and financial information.

There's a report that at least two workers at Tesla's Fremont assembly plant have tested positive for coronavirus. The county health department has not received any reports from the company of illnesses.

And in yet another bid for normalcy, movie theaters across the state will begin reopening Friday, as each county gives the go-ahead.
