Coronavirus Cases Rise In Contra Costa County But No New Deaths

WALNUT CREEK, CA — Contra Costa Health Services reported another 19 confirmed cases of COVID-19, caused by coronavirus, in the county on Wednesday, bringing the total caseload to 462. But there were no new deaths, leaving the death toll at 7.

None of the 19 new cases are in Walnut Creek. The total cases here remains at 28.

The California death toll has risen to 453, with almost 18,000 cases confirmed.

And across the country more than 1,800 deaths have occurred, and roughly 425,000 cases confirmed.

Late word Wednesday night is that 6 people have died as a result of an outbreak at a care facility in Hayward. Earlier in the day, that outbreak was one of two reported at Alameda County nursing homes. The other is in Castro Valley.

On Tuesday it was reported that Carlton Senior Living in Pleasant Hill had four residents and nine staff members sick with COVID-19, including 3 who were hospitalized. An outbreak at Orinda Care Center in Orinda, announced last week, has now sickened 49.

Tesla is expected to impose pay cuts and furloughs on employees, after the company's Fremont assembly plant was shuttered as a result of the stay-at-home order.
