Garden Buds - Fall Children's Program at the Ruth Bancroft Garden

Do you have a child 18-36 months old? Garden Buds is a program where your child will have the opportunity to practice social skills in an outdoor setting while developing an interest in nature with hands-on activities. The classes will use sustainable and natural materials for the craft activities. The program will provide early education in basic plant knowledge, hands-on plant-based activities, and seasonal experiences exclusive to the Ruth Bancroft Garden.

September’s class series will take place on September 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th and will focus on the basics like plant parts and plant needs. Learn what a succulent is and how it differs from other plants. We will also talk about Ruth, the Garden’s founder, since it is her birthday on September 2nd. The children will listen to a book, go on a Garden walk and make a craft each week.

October’s class series will take place on October 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th and will focus on how we use plants in our daily lives. We eat plants and seeds but also use plants as clothes, paper, and furniture. The Garden Buds will have the opportunity to try some of the fruit growing in the Garden. The last class will be dress-up day and we will make a mask with paper marigold and nature material.

November’s class series will take place on November 5th, 12th, and 19th. The Garden buds will learn about leaves on trees. The leaves are falling, and you can find acorns and pinecones on the ground. The Garden Buds will print with leaves, make a pocket buddy, and a pinecone squirrel.

For non-members, the price covers admission to the Garden for 1 caregiver on the class dates. Each child can be accompanied by one caregiver. In the case of siblings, one caregiver can accompany two children. The pricing is on a per-child basis.
