WALNUT CREEK, CA — The man who died in an officer-involved shooting in Walnut Creek Sunday has been identified as 23-year-old Miles Hall by the Contra Costa County Coroner's Office. Hall grew up in the Walnut Creek neighborhood where he died, according to neighbors. Officers fired their guns after bean bag rounds failed to halt Hall as he charged them with a metal pry bar. He had already threatened both is grandmother and mother, pounded on a neighbor's door while armed with the pry bar, and had been advancing toward another home when he was intercepted by officers. His mother warned police that he had "mental health problems and will be aggressive with police" when she made a 911 call reporting his threat.

The Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office and the Walnut Creek Police Department are investigating the shooting. A Patch request on Tuesday for an update on the investigation has not yet received a response. Body worn camera footage is one of the pieces of evidence. That video will eventually be made public.

The Walnut Creek Police Department reports that all five officers who were at the scene at the time of the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave. Their names have not been made public.
